Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The advantages of using PNG images in website designing over other file types such as GIF and JPEG; the file type can be used to make really amazing and spectacular images that will entice your visitorsThe PNG image format was introduced some time ago; it was brought out for consumers around 95/96 to cover the drawbacks of the traditional GIF image format. However, it failed to create ripples because the the browsers of the time could not offer support to the advanced offerings of PNG so internet designers and creators had to use it stingily. One of the main hurdles that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of the time; IE had very little provision for PNG support consequently the format could only be made use of to a bare minimum. Then, things metamorphosed when IE7 was brought out; this fresh browser from Microsoft has helped in increasing the popularity of PNGs. They look spectacular: Not only do you get surprising flexibility when using PNG images but also; there are a myriad of other benefits to incorporating this format. For instance, if you choose a JPG image, you lose a part of the data on the original file each time you save the file, so eventually, you will be able to view a distinct decline in the finesse of the images. Even if, this issue has been solved in in the file type and you can save the images without losing any details, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which makes it quite useless if you want to store a snap shot. However, when you use PNG, you could get the most desired features of both these formats; you will have access to a complete color display like the one used in JPEG format and it also provides managed color palette a la GIF files. At the same time the compression of the picture is lossless so the image does not change even if you save the file several times.
PNG is self optimizing: A serious problem that web designers need to handle frequently is the fact that the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be adjusted to see the images correctly; this happens due to various Gamma setting used in monitors from different vendors. Gamma setting is a method that helps to spread the brightness across the screen. However, different operating systems use varying Gamma settings. Hence, a picture that is color corrected to suit Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Here again, in this situation the innovative PNG image type comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can store the pictures with a built in Gamma correction so whatever operating system you are working on; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display a file with the perfect ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
