Why Should You Use PNG Images in Your Web Design?
The pros of including PNG file format in web designing over various other image formats such as GIF and JPEG; the image format helps to make really amazing and efficient web graphics that will prove alluring to your customersThe PNG image format was introduced some time ago; it was brought out for consumers in 1995/96 to make up for the shortcomings of the traditional GIF file type. However, it failed to create ripples because the the browsers of the time were not designed to support the state of the art features of PNG so web designers and creators were compelled to incorporate it stingily. One of the main blocks that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft's flagship product, Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of that period; IE had little or no place for PNG support which equated to the fact that the format could only be used in limited capacity. But, matters went through a change when IE7 was brought out; this fresh product from Microsoft has proved immensely useful in increasing increasing the popularity of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is one of the most innovative image formats in the market today:
You will be able to create transparent images or a feature called alpha transparency: When you pitch GIF against PNG, will notice that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you you will be restricted to saving any odd color in a transparent format through GIF which means that the color can be transformed whether opaque or transparent with just transparency in betweenbut when you use PNG, you get a serious benefit; because the format supports semi transparent pixels. With this attribute, you can save a PNG image with a soft drop shadow and then use it against a background of your choice. You can also use the image as a background with gradient or a water mark. The format lets you incorporate the smooth fading of hues from fully opaque to transparent, so that you can see the webpage that lies in the background
They look fantastic: Not only do you get surprising flexibility when using PNG images but also; there are a myriad of other advantages to using this format. For instance, when you use a JPEG image, you lose a part of the details from the original file whenever you save the file, so after a while, you will notice a distinct downgrade in the appearance of the images. Even though, this issue has been resolved in GIF and you will be able to save the files without compromising any data, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which imparts it quite ineffective if you have to store a picture. But, when you use PNG, you can get the perfect attributes of the image formats; you will have access to a complete color display like with JPEG format and it also offers managed color palette a la GIF files. At the same time the storage of the file is sans loss so the picture stays put regardless of how many time you save it.
PNG is self optimizing: A serious problem that web programmers face very often is the anomaly due to which the contrast and the brightness of the monitor has to be regulated to see the the display appropriately; this happens due to the difference in the Gamma setting used for the different monitors. Gamma setting is a technique that helps to scatter the the light across the screen. However, various operating systems use a variety of Gamma settings. Therefore, an image that is color corrected for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Again, in this scenario the versatile PNG picture format can prove useful, in PNG, you can save the pictures with a built in Gamma correction so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be realigned to display an image with the amazing contrast and brightness.
