The landscape curtailed by a tube which have captured it from different directions, has been spotted by stains of light and a shade which could appear woods, the fields, the frozen lakes and cities; relevancy of distance and speed from which the rocket died away, did an identification almost impossible. Narrow lines - not that roads, not that channels or the straightened rivers - developed in hardly distinguishable, but geometrically correct network, and further, on the border of visibility, the cylinder was surrounded with any more dark strip. It outlined a cycle, covered a ring an interior of this world, and Norton has suddenly remembered a myth about Ocean which, on beliefs ancient, washed a disk of the Earth.Perhaps, here - in reality - there was stranger sea, not ring, but cylindrical? Whether it knew before to fall asleep in, interstellar night, breakers, inflow, currents, waves? Whether occupied its fishes?
The rocket has burnt down and has gone out, the revelation instant passed. But Norton understood: this picture will not be effaced now from its memory to a grave. And the history never can challenge that fact that to it honour to see creation of other civilisation has dropped out.
Chapter 9
ACQUAINTANCE
- We have started five lighting rockets, having adjusted their clockworks so that it is reliable to block photographing all the length long the cylinder. All main reference points are put on cards and though they are very difficult for identifying with something acquaintance, nevertheless we have given them conditional names.

Imagine an umbrella at which only three spokes equally removed from each other, is will give you exact enough submission how the Frame on our part looks.
