Uncle Sam – Who Is Uncle Sam?

The article written below illustrates about Uncle Sam. What is the history behind Uncle Sam and how much it is worthy.

You might have heard the logo ‘Uncle Sam wants you’. This was the famous nationalist logo by many. In the war times; there were a number of posters which were in the favor to support United States. A number of people saw the image of uncle Sam on the poster as well on the other print media but only a few knew the source of him. Since the war in 1812, Uncle Sam has been made a symbol which appeared in 1852. The character of Uncle Sam has been made under discussion for years before it came into existence.

According to the history, there was a man named Uncle Sam Wilson who sends a U.S stamped meat to soldiers. It was marked by the soldiers that U.S stands as a symbol for him. From that time onwards, the synonyms came in practice for Sam Wilson and United States as Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam Wilson started the business with his brother from Troy in New York. In 1812, after he once sends the meat to the soldiers, he made a contract with him. The beef used to get packed in the barrels and was send through shipping. He was an old man with white hair and white beard who used to wear white hat and a blue jacket. James Montgomery Flagg was the one who made him like that just in order to promote the concern in joining Army by more and more people.

Flagg worked hard to promote the efforts to be made in the World War I and he wanted to run his campaign which was based on patriotism. Then on the World War II, the campaign was put forward by a symbol of Uncle Sam on it and thus it was great patriotic campaign which was run with a lot of efforts. With due fame, he started using as a comic character in the young people comic books. In the National Comics, the comics made on him appeared as number 1 whose publishing was later on done by the Quality Comics when there was a Golden Age of Comic Books.
