We all use the word Uncle Sam every now and then. But what most people do not know is that Uncle Sam is basically a real life character who has managed to live amongst us for a very long time now and the word Uncle Sam has become very popular. The word Uncle Sam is very popular among the American people and the reason for this is that it is more like an icon which seems to appear from time to time and helps people. So people call such icons as Uncle Sam. It is a fact that most of the Americans do not have an idea about the origins of Uncle Sam and where this word actually came from. Most of the Americans would point to the early times of the twentieth century as the time period in which the word Uncle Sam actually came in to being. But that is not correct because the word Uncle Sam was used for a real person and it is derived from a real person’s name whose real name was Samuel Wilson who was born in Massachusetts and later on settled in the town of Troy, New York. Samuel was known among the locals as “Uncle” Sam and later on the very same Samuel become a national icon and because of that the word Uncle Sam is so popular these days and is widely used as well. You will see a lot of pictures of Uncle Sam every now and then but like I said earlier, most people do not know the real story behind this name and they also do not know the real person who was once known as Uncle Sam. Samuel when moved to Troy NY, he started a firm with his brother which supplied the army with different contracts. There was a lot of speculation about Samuel and his terms with the army that he is feeding the army among the people of Troy. This was published in a gazette in May 12, 1830 which was later on confirmed by his great-great nephews. ![]()
