Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The benefits of incorporating PNG images in website creation over the different formats ;for instance, GIF and JPEG; the file type can be used to make better and efficient web graphics that will wow your consumersThe PNG file format was introduced some time ago; it was put forth for consumers in 1995/96 to meet the deficiencies of the the common GIF file type. However, it did not make an impression because the the browsers of the time were not designed to support the state of the art features of PNG so web designers and developers had to use it restrictedly. One of the primary blocks standing in the way was Microsoft's flagship product, Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of that period; IE had limited place for PNG support which meant that the format could only be incorporated to a bare minimum. But, matters metamorphosed when IE7 was brought out; this latest browser from Microsoft has helped in increasing the popularity of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is by far the most innovative image formats to be introduced so far:
It is possible to create transparent images or a property known as alpha transparency: When you compare PNG with GIF, will notice that one of the major differences is that you can only save a specific color as transparent in GIF which means that the color can be used whether opaque or transparent with just transparency in between with the use of PNG, you get a specific benefit; because the format is capable of producing semi transparent pixels. This feature gives you the ability to save a PNG image with a soft drop shadow and then fuse it with a background that suits your taste. You can also use the image as a background with gradient or a water mark. The file type gives you the option to use the smooth fading of shades from entirely opaque to see through, and hence you will be able to view the webpage that lies in the background
They look spectacular: Apart from the fact, that you get amazing flexibility wit PNG images; there are numerous other benefits to incorporating this format. For example, if you make use of the JPG Format, you lose a portion of the details on the original file every time the file is saved, so in time, you will be able to see a distinct decline in the finesse of the images. Even if, this issue has been resolved in GIF and you can store the pictures without sacrificing any data, GIF has a limited color palette of 256, which makes it quite ineffective if you want to save a photograph. However, if PNG is incorporated, you can get the most desired features of the two file types; you will have access to an extensive color display like with JPEG format and it also provides managed color palette as seen in GIF files. Also the compression of the picture is sans loss so the picture stays put regardless of how many time you save it.
Self Optimization is possible in PNG: A major concern that web designers have to tackle on a daily basis is the fact that the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be changed to see the the display appropriately; this happens due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma setting is a technology incorporated to spread the luminance across the screen. However, diverse operating systems use varying Gamma settings. Hence, a picture that is color corrected specifically for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Here again, in this situation the versatile PNG image type can prove useful, in PNG, you can save the pictures with an inherent Gamma correction feature so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to show a file with the amazing contrast and brightness.
