Why Do You Need to Use PNG Image Format in Your Website Creation?

The PNG image format was introduced quite a while back; it was brought out for consumers in 1995/96 to meet the deficiencies of the traditional GIF file format. However, it did not catch on because the early browsers could not offer support to the state of the art features of PNG so website designers and makers were compelled to incorporate it restrictedly. One of the primary hindrances that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft's flagship product, Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of the time; IE had little or no place for PNG support which equated to the fact that the format could only be used in the most restricted way. You can get images that can be superimposed due to their transparency or alpha transparency: When you pitch GIF against PNG, it will become apparent that A definitive difference in the two formats is that you can only save a particular color transparently through the use of GIF this equates to the fact that the color can be transformed regardless of it being opaque or transparent with no other color in between; however, with PNG, you get a specific advantage; because the format can be used to produce semi transparency. With this attribute, you can save a PNG image with a soft drop shadow and then float it against any background. You can also use the image as a watermark or a gradient background. The image file type allows for the smooth fading of shades from completely opaque to transparent, exposing the webpage that lies in the background

They look fabulous: It is a well known fact that PNG images give you extreme flexibility also; there are numerous other benefits to using this format. For example, if you make use of the JPG Format, you lose some of the information on the original file every time you save the file, so after a while, you will be able to see a noticeable downgrade in the appearance of the images. Even though, this issue has now been sorted in in the file type and you will be able to save the files without compromising any data, GIF has a limited color palette of 256, which makes it quite useless if you want to store a snap shot. On the other hand, with PNG, you could get the perfect benefits of both these formats; you will have access to a complete color display similar to JPEG format and it also offers managed color palette a la GIF files. At the same time the storage of the image is sans loss so the image stays as it is despite innumerable times of saving the file.

PNG allows for self optimization: A serious problem that web programmers face frequently is the fact that the contrast and the brightness of the monitor has to be regulated to see the the display appropriately; this problem occurs due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma is a method incorporated to spread the luminance across the monitor display. However, different operating systems use a variety of Gamma settings. Therefore, an image that is color corrected for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Once again, in this situation the innovative PNG picture format comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can save the files with a built in Gamma correction so whatever operating system you are working on; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display a file with the amazing brightness and contrast.
