The PNG file type was introduced a few years back; it was brought out in the market in 1995/96 to make up for the shortcomings of the traditional GIF image format. Gamma is a technology that helps to scatter the the light across the monitor display. However, diverse operating systems use a variety of Gamma settings. So, an image that is color corrected to suit Windows may appear abnormal in Mac.
